Tonight, Friday October 16th, 7 p.m. ($3), the “Off-Hours” Reading Series continues. Reading poetry and prose, the line up includes Bill Carty, Brian Christian, Stacey Levine, Kevin Skiena, and Shannon Tharp- and Bond Huberman hosts. Reading Local reviewer Amy Schrader wrote of Shannon Tharp’s recent chapbook, Determined by Aperture, she “wields the minimum amount of language necessary for reference, but also withholds with surgical skill. The poems point to something bigger than the physical spaces that contain them.” The Stranger recently awarded Stacey Levine The Stranger Genius Award for The Girl With Brown Fur. Of Levine’s book, Donna Seamna wrote at BookForum “there’s no making nice here, no way of easing into this writer’s sensibility. In The Girl with Brown Fur Stacey Levine ignores lyricism as an evolutionary dead end. Life is fractious and dire her prose style says; let fiction serve as razor and torch.”
