Reading Local Seattle

The Seattle Mystery Bookshop opened in the summer of 1990. The store sells hardcovers and paperbacks — new and used. The store also host author signings nearly every week and have a large stock of signed firsts as well as a selection of collectibles. They have a quarterly newsletter which lists the new books coming in, features about authors and mystery books, 'favorite lists' and more. They are a member of the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association. This group is an advocate for independent mystery bookshops and mystery authors, both of which seem to be somewhat endangered.

Sociologist Ray Oldenberg's book The Great Good Place suggests that to lead a rewarding life, each of us needs three places. First is the home. Second is the workplace or school. Beyond lies the place where people from all walks of life and all social levels interact, experiencing and celebrating their commonality as well as their diversity. It is a third place. Third Place Books is the deliberate and intentional creation of a community of booklovers, a fun, comfortable and safe place to browse, linger, lounge, relax, read, eat, laugh, play, talk, listen and just watch the world go by.
